Top seed, Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland has on Tuesday advanced to the second round of the Japan Open with a 7-5 6-3 win over Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic.
The Swiss started the match well with his trademark backhand, helping him to take an early 3-1 lead.
Stepanek broke back when Wawrinka served for the set at 5-4, but Wawrinka took the set when he broke the Czech’s serve in the 12th game.
Wawrinka broke the Stepanek serve in the second game of the second set on the third break point.
Wawrinka sealed the match with an ace after 78 minutes of play.
